My name is Markjan Vermeer and I’m a luthier. I build, repair and restore acoustic guitars. Together with my partner Dick Dijkman, we have our workshop in Delden in the east part of The Netherlands.
I don't update or use this website frequently, but it at least gives you some background information, a few links and my e-mail address.
I had luthery training in the Centre for Musical instrument Building in Puurs in Belguim. Aside from luthery, I am a mechanical engineer and I have a background in machine building.
In September 2011 I took off to California to join the Santa Cruz Guitar Company for a few years. Working at this company is a great opportunity to build up my flight hours as a luthier. I’m part of the production crew and responsible for the service and repairs.
In return for this opportunity I'm using my experience and old profession as a mechanical engineer. I spend half of my time advising and working on production- and tooling improvements.
Leonardo Guitar Research Project
In Oktober 2012 the Leonardo Guitar Research Project starts. It's an european project where two schools and two entrepreneurs partner up to do an extensive research project.
"The Leonardo Guitar Research Project will focus on non-tropical woods not commonly used in guitar making. We also will work out innovative techniques that can be integrated into the non-tropical wood guitars. We want to improve global expertise on the craft and adapt it to ecological needs."
